Mary Burke is a businesswoman and former Democratic candidate for governor of Wisconsin. She was born on August 4, 1959, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Burke is the daughter of Richard Burke, founder of Trek Bicycle Corporation, and grew up in a wealthy family.
Burke graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in finance and marketing. She went on to work for several years in the business sector, including as an executive at Trek Bicycle Corporation. In 2003, she founded the nonprofit organization Building Brave, which aims to empower women through mentorship and support.
In 2014, Burke ran for governor of Wisconsin against incumbent Republican Scott Walker. She campaigned on issues such as education, job creation, and income inequality. Ultimately, she was unsuccessful in her bid for governor, losing to Walker in the election.
Despite her defeat, Burke remains active in the political and business worlds. She continues to advocate for issues such as education reform and women's empowerment.
